Latvia is preparing to welcome the brightest young scientific minds from across Europe as it hosts the prestigious European Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS) for the first time. The event will take place in Riga from September 15 to 20, 2025, marking a significant moment for Latvia’s growing influence in science, technology, and education.
The EUCYS is one of Europe’s most respected platforms for young innovators aged 14 to 20, providing an opportunity to present their scientific projects at an international level. This year’s contest will bring together approximately 150 young scientists from nearly 40 countries who have already achieved top placements in their national science competitions.
Organized by the State Education Development Agency of Latvia (VIAA) in cooperation with the European Commission, the event reflects Latvia’s commitment to advancing youth science education and promoting research as a career path for young Europeans.
Participants will showcase their work before an international jury of over 20 experts, who will evaluate projects across various disciplines, including natural sciences, engineering, mathematics, social sciences, and environmental studies. Prizes will include monetary awards, internships, and opportunities to visit renowned research centers across Europe.
In addition to the main competition, EUCYS 2025 will offer educational seminars, public exhibitions, cultural activities, and networking opportunities. These activities are designed to foster collaboration, inspire future innovation, and build a strong European research community among youth.
Hosting EUCYS is not only a recognition of Latvia’s educational progress but also a strategic step in placing the country among leading European nations in research-driven youth development. The event is expected to attract attention from policymakers, educational institutions, and the private sector, all of whom play a vital role in nurturing the next generation of scientists and innovators.
As Latvia takes on this important role, it reaffirms its commitment to fostering excellence in education and positioning itself as a modern hub for innovation and scientific achievement.
